Dick Devos and the FAA

Dick Devos is one of the top businessmen in the country. Known for his incredible sales acumen, he has helped a variety of different businesses through his company The Windquest Group. As the founder of a private equity firm, he helps companies who want to make a difference in the world, including organizations like Boxed Water.


Last year, Devos made a surprising move when he joined the FAA’s Management Advisory Council and started to meet with the 13 members of the civilian board each quarter. As part of the advisory council, Devos will work with other transportation authorities and former airline executives to advise the FAA on policies, regulations, budgets, and future plans.


Planning for change has been on the FAA’s agenda since President Trump challenged the agency on the state of America’s aviation industry. He believed that other foreign markets were far more competitive, and that airports in America lacked technology available in other countries. This move prompted the FAA to make sweeping changes to certain policies, which the agency has released throughout 2018.


How does Devos fit into all of this?


In the early 1990s, Devos began working closely with business leaders in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is hometown. He had just left Amway as Vice President, where he had led record-breaking sales in international markets for the company. The business leaders in his hometown wanted to make a great difference in the city. Devos had seen what had happened to Detroit after the Pontiac Silverdome went bust and the sports teams left the city. He saw that city planning required a strategy, and he looked for a way to bring more people to the city while improving the commerce traffic to downtown.


He started with Grand Action, a collective group of business leaders who wanted to build up the business district of downtown. This led to the creation of the Devos Performing Arts Center and a convention center. Devos then looked for another way to bring more jobs and activity through the city, and he focused on the airport nearby.


Now called the Gerald R. Ford International Airport, the little airport had a relaunch in 1999. Even still, the airport struggled to find travelers. Devos came in with a plan to attract business travelers. He wanted to add new destinations to some of the biggest convention centers and set up a business traveler’s center at the airport as well.


Ultimately, this led to the greatest transformation for the airport and a $45 million influx of funding. Devos is now working with the FAA because of his ability to make partnerships and help other businesses with smart strategies.

One thing that could be said for any religion is that it attracts a lot of the extreme traditionalists. There are those that are found in any religion that will react in ways that are disproportionate to the perceived offense. The teachings of Kabbalah are not only meant to prevent any twist of the words that are taught, but they are also meant to correct any twist on the teachings that have already occurred. Therefore, people will be able to know what the true meaning is of what they are taught if they are able to get a hold of the teachings. However, they have to have been taught a lot about the Kabbalah in order to be able to use it and learn more about Kabbalah.

The Kabbalah Centre was founded in 1965 in order to house the teachings of the Kabbalah. People are able to get a glimpse of the teachings that are found in the centre. It is still not recommended by the traditionalists for the Kabbalah teachings to be granted to the normal every day people. However, there is a lot of interest when it comes to getting a glimpse at the true meaning of what is being taught in other religions. For one thing, people that understand the Kabbalah teachings find themselves feeling enlightened about the world and the universe and Kabbalah’s lacrosse camp.

ClassDojo Funding Brings Schools Closer to the Future

Startups are always hurting for cash, making every dollar precious to meeting their business goals. It also helps communicate the general interest the public has for what ever it is you’ve got on offer. If that’s the case, the people behind ClassDojo are feeling pretty pleased with their latest round of funding and pretty confident behind their platform after investors handed over $21 million.

ClassDojo is a platform that connects parents and teachers, maintaining an open line of communication between the two. This allows parents to remain informed on their child’s performance in school and gives teachers a method by which they can keep those same parents engaged in school functions throughout the year.

Though it may seem a tool for parents to hover over their children even while they are in school or a method teachers can employ to nag at parent’s over their child’s behavior throughout the day, it’s actually been used as a method to better instruct students. By informing parents where children need the most attention in order to excel, both they and teachers can foster an atmosphere that is conducive to learning, one that isn’t dependent upon face-to-face meetings a couple of times a year.

Liam Don and Sam Chaundhary, co-founders of ClassDojo, seek to use their most recently acquired funds to expand the company’s staff so that the platform can be reformed, prioritizing more immediate communication between users with greater detail.

Liam and Sam aren’t the only ones to break into the education market through tech, though many that have seems to have stuck mostly to instructional materials. Before Class Dojo there hasn’t been much of a focus on communication needs specifically for the school environment, and with more than 85,000 participating schools its hard to imagine any significant competition coming into play any time soon. This lack of competition has allowed them to reach a level of respectability among schools, and as a result they have made it a point to focus on potential privacy concerns over data moving forward.

ClassDojo has raised more than $31 in funding since 2011, elevating the company to a competitive position in the world of educational tech solutions. Along with this increased funding, ClassDojo has sprawled out as a platform, becoming more like a social network for teachers and parents to better make sense of education solutions for students.

Thought the future for this platform, as is the case with all others, is to shift towards monetization, ClassDojo has not intentions to move away from the education market for now.
